Newsletter – October 2013

The year has started in full swing with the club hosting an Aquathon at Nielson’s Beach, Bargara on September 8. A small but enthusiastic field was greeted by a loop course incorporating a tricky little swim leg in the middle of the run.  Congratulations to the winners Baylee Holden in the Turtles, Tom Martin in Give it a Tri, Angus McLean in the Sprint,  team ‘Togs’ in the Give it a Tri and team ‘Linkfit’ in the Sprint.  All competitors enjoyed the morning with complements to the organising committee for a smoothly run event.Another directive of the clubs’ committee is to have more social events, which was kicked off with a beach side barbeque.  Who doesn’t like an afternoon kicking back with the smell of overcooked sausages at the beach?  I don’t think we will see skateboarding ‘luge’ style as a leg in a triathlon anytime soon.

Results from around the Triathlon Scene..A number of club members have been racing out and about over the past few months and showing their skills to the world.  Rebecca Jenner, hot off her age group win in Ironman 70.3 Cairns, hot footed it over to the World Championship Ironman 70.3 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.  Well done Bec, what an amazing experience that must have been for you.

The Wide Bay World Championships – Fraser Coast v’s Coral Coast was run in conjunction with the Rainbow Beach Double Triathlon.  There were no fewer than 21 competitor who registered from the Coral Coast.  A massive effort that!  While the results didn’t go our way,  all competitors put the effort in and some lessons were learnt which will come in handy when tackling the Fraser coast in the coming years.  Rainbow Beach certainly is a stunning backdrop to an enjoyable weekend of racing.

Congratulations also go to Kephren, Sherry, Dwayne, Angus, Cameron and Cameron that competed in the 1st Ironman 70.3 Mooloolaba on the weekend. A great time was had by all.  Sherry even managed to obtain a place in the world championships in Canada next year, well done Rooster.

The Hervey Bay Triathlon Club continue to pump out races.  Five members competed in the latest sprint Triathlon, with some a few podium results.  Well done to Kody, Liam, Wade, Matt and Grant in representing the club in hostile territory.
(Please let me know if anyone is out there and racing in future events so that we can celebrate there accomplishments and share the love!)
